It’s a project that started in 2006 and still ongoing. What began at first as a means of escape has turned with time into a necessity: to narrate Italy through my personal story. An estranged and dreamy Italy, away from specific geographical and temporary indications, above history and tradition, where what defines the world is no longer the current affairs, nor the social and political issues, but rather the present day, made of faces, stories and suggestions. A very personal voyage that takes me to the daily life of cities and provinces, places of the soul where the small details become the narrators of an existence. Accidental encounters, urban landscapes, intimate relationships that could belong to the onlooker. Slices of cities become narrations of lives lived by leaving space for the most varied range of moods. Bodies shown with pride to affirm one’s own existence, or hidden for a common and not quite clear sense of decency. Ostentations which we think we’re used to. It’s further than that intentional display that my eye rests. An intimate diary in which each lived instant and each encountered person has the objective of revealing a little more. What is often not very visible is what later reveals the real nature. What I’ve seen and I see. What I’ve lived and I live. Simply one step away from what is perhaps more evident. I try to shift my point of view, to look just one step behind. So that I never lose the contact. Exactly one step.

E’ un lavoro iniziato nel 2006 e ancora in corso. Quello che in principio era nato per evasione, si è rivelato nel tempo una necessità: raccontare l’Italia attraverso la mia storia personale. Un’Italia straniata e onirica, aldilà di indicazioni geografiche o temporali precise, oltre la storia e la tradizione dove non è più la cronaca o la questione sociale e politica a definire un mondo bensì l’oggi fatto di volti, racconti e suggestioni. Un personalissimo viaggio che mi porta nel vissuto quotidiano di città e province, luoghi dell’anima in cui i dettagli diventano rivelatori di un’esistenza. Incontri fortuiti, paesaggi urbani, relazioni intime che potrebbero essere di chi guarda. Scorci di città diventano racconto di vita vissuta lasciando spazio ai più vari stati d’animo. Corpi mostrati con orgoglio per affermare la propria esistenza o nascosti per un comune e non ben precisato senso del pudore. Ostentazioni a cui pensiamo di essere abituati. E’ oltre quell’esibizione che il mio occhio si posa. Un diario intimo in cui ogni istante vissuto e ogni persona incontrata è tesa a svelare qualcosa di più. Ciò che spesso è poco visibile è ciò che poi rivela la vera natura. Ciò che ho visto e che vedo. Ciò che ho vissuto e che vivo. Semplicemente ad un passo da quello che forse è più evidente. Provo a spostare il mio punto di vista, a voltare lo sguardo giusto un passo dietro. Per non perdere mai il contatto. Esattamente ad un passo.
